Syllables Clip Cards

This Syllable Clip Card set is designed to make learning an interactive adventure. Each card features a colourful picture, the corresponding word, and three answer options — your child simply uses a clothespin (or paperclip) to clip the correct number of syllables. This hands-on activity boosts phonological awareness, improves reading skills, and strengthens fine motor coordination, all while keeping learning playful and engaging.

There are 76 word cards with animal names:

• 1-syllable words (24)
• 2-syllable words (24)
• 3-syllable words (24)
• 4-syllable words for greater challenge (4)

Activity Ideas:

1. Syllable Hunt: After using the cards, ask the child to find objects around the room with the same number of syllables as the word on the card.
2. Beat the Timer: Set a timer and see how many cards the child can clip correctly in one minute. Great for building fluency under gentle time pressure.
3. Group Game: In small groups, children take turns clipping answers. Correct answers earn points or tokens, adding a fun, competitive element.
4. Syllable Clap-Along: Before clipping the answer, encourage the child to clap, tap, or stomp out the syllables to reinforce auditory learning.
5. Mystery Bag: Place several cards in a bag. The child picks one without looking, then pulls it out to clip the answer.
6. Reverse Challenge: You say a word aloud without showing the picture, and the child must find the matching card and clip the correct number of syllables.
